Q:

What do I do about a clogged shower drain?

Subject:
Plumbing Question from: Réjeanne Gagnon, Matane (Québec) Posted: May 28, 2012

Can it be unclogged easily?

R:

Pour some Super Drain.

Answer from: Michel Massé Posted: May 28, 2012

Pour 500 ml of Super Drain down the drain, wait 5 minutes and run the cold water. If that doesn’t solve the problem, try again with the same amount of product and wait 15 minutes before running the cold water.

Q:

Do I need to buy primer?

Subject:
Paint Question from: Daniel Yeung, Richmond (British Columbia) Posted: May 28, 2012

Is primer needed before starting to paint?

R:

In most cases, yes.

Answer from: Trish Elgin Posted: May 28, 2012

Primer has many advantages. It can be used to cover dark colours, block stains, and help paint adhere and last longer.

Always use primer on new drywall and on drywall patches on previously-painted walls.

Q:

Can I stain or paint my pressure-treated fence or deck?

Subject:
Fences Question from: Sébastien Côté, Saguenay (Québec) Posted: May 28, 2012

Can we do that? And will I get a good result?

R:

Yes, absolutely.

Answer from: Keith Andreasen Posted: May 28, 2012

Yes, you can stain or paint pressure-treated wood; just allow sufficient drying time before staining or painting.

Q:

Do I need to wash my walls first?

Subject:
Paint Question from: Esther Yu, Toronto (Ontario) Posted: May 28, 2012

Is it really necessary?

R:

Yes.

Answer from: Trish Elgin Posted: May 28, 2012

Washing your wall surfaces first is always a good idea, especially in kitchens and bathrooms where moisture and mildew can build up on painted surfaces. A quick wash with TSP and a rinse with clean water will prep your wall surface for painting.

Q:

How can I space my fence boards evenly?

Subject:
Fences Question from: Kirk Wendland, Markham (Ontario) Posted: May 28, 2012

Do you have a tip to do it easily?

R:

Prepare spacers before
getting started.

Answer from: Keith Andreasen Posted: May 28, 2012

To make sure the space between your fence boards is even, cut 2 pieces to act as templates/spacers for top and bottom; this will give you a uniform pattern for each 8' section.
