Vangard Tools

Traditional tools are being updated, new ones are being developed and tool ergonomics are being revised. In essence, tools are evolving under the influence of technology and new markets.

Due in large part to budget restraints and the desire to challenge themselves, consumers are taking on more and more home projects. And not only men between the ages of 35 and 65; women and even the elderly are attracted by the sense of accomplishment and by being able to tell their friends “Thanks, I did it myself!”. To cater to this new clientele, manufacturers are producing lighter tools with improved ergonomics in order to make them easier to grasp and easier to handle.

Kits: indispensable for the do-it-yourselfer

All-in-one tool kits are ideal for this new generation of do-it-yourselfers; they come complete with hammer, screwdriver (with interchangeable bits), all-purpose knife, tape measure, pliers, level, adjustable wrench, etc., all packaged in a rugged, practical and portable storage case. The all-in-one concept is also popular for the nails, screws and framing hooks needed to complete most every household project.

Laser: the new technological application

Saws
Over the last few years, manufacturers have concentrated their product development efforts on “wireless” technologies. Today, with the advent of the laser and other sensors, the next phase of this development has arrived. Lasers, which project a red line along the cutting surface in order to guide the cut and “maintain the course”, can now be found mounted on tools such as circular saws, jigsaws and mitre saws. Perhaps your old mitre saw still works like a charm but is not equipped with a guiding device? You can upgrade it by simply mounting a stand-alone laser cutting guide on your trusty tool.
Levels
Another area where lasers and traditional tools are being combined effectively - levels. The air bubble has yet to be replaced but the devices now project a beam of light that effectively eliminates the need for chalk lines, and the additional miniature level. Better yet, line generators that automatically place the beam of light to level or to plumb are now available. Laser levels can also be equipped with stud detectors (an indispensable tool these days); a “radar” of sorts that can precisely detect the position of studs and girths hidden behind wall coverings. Even though this tool is a fairly recent development, it has already evolved to the point where certain models now come equipped with sensors that detect metal and electrical wires.

The laser measuring tool
Finally, another electronic device is beginning to make its mark: the laser measuring tool. Point it towards the wall (the devices can also be equipped with laser pointers to improve accuracy) and it will tell you the distance between the wall and the device. More advanced models even allow for the measurement of areas and volumes in order to help you determine the quantity of paint or wallpaper as well as the minimal capacity required of your heating or air conditioning systems, etc.
Modern tools are more practical and more user-friendly than ever. They were built with you in mind, why not take full advantage!
