Uses

There are three types of outdoor lighting: security, functional and decorative.
When we discuss security lighting, we’re referring to lighting used to assure personal security. For example, a lamp installed to light a stairwell or to keep intruders away from an entranceway. For it to be really safe, a powerful light should be used. Unfortunately, this may rule out decorative lighting.

Functional lighting makes the garden, the lawn, the swimming pool, the walkway etc., accessible at night. Discretion is name of the game! It’s not necessary to reproduce daylight conditions, but instead to subtly light useful areas like outdoor furniture emplacements, walkway edges, etc.

Decorative lighting consists of creating a nocturnal décor, putting key areas such as a lawn or a garden in the "limelight". A romantic atmosphere… dramatic… enchanting. Let your imagination be your guide! But never forget that there’s a happy medium: too little lighting leaves shadows that can create a sinister atmosphere, while too much can become tedious and may be a source of light pollution in the neighbourhood.
