The bedroom will always be a room where we want to feel perfectly at ease, in perfect harmony. The headboard, whether in the master bedroom, children’s room, or guest room, is an essential element in any successful personal decor. Here are a few ideas for easily constructed headboards that will enable you to create just the right ambience for nights filled with sweet dreams and mornings of perfect contentment…
Harmony echoes through the continuity of both motifs and colours in this decor. This majestic headboard gives the bedroom a spectacular allure, and it really is not difficult to make. A simple panel, of sufficient length to extend to the ceiling, was covered with foam and the same material as was used for the bedding – creating a truly interesting visual effect. To hold the material and padding in place, we fixed buttons on the four corners of each square. The cushions provide a subtle interruption of the play on colours through a clever inversion of the square motif.
The romantic enchantment of the room is enhanced by the canopy. We made a casing using wood planks and mouldings and then, for a quality finish, added a cove displaying beautiful sculpted motifs. We thus underlined the very chic elegance of the room. All was painted in glossy white, taking our cue from the wall sconces installed on either side of the headboard. A clever arrangement indeed, with a definite stamp of originality and ‘class.’
Very simply – chic
In this tastefully decorated room, the headboard signals a desire to simplify the decor with a choice of pure lines. Here, a plywood panel covered with foam and natural beige and white fabric serves as the headboard. We’ve also created a display case for photographs, candles, and other attractive objects by cutting out a portion of the forward section of the wall. This three-sided box further accentuates the predominance of horizontal lines, provides a focal point above the headboard, and enhances the stylishness of this ultra-simple decor.
Pillow talk
A metal frame, fully as wide as the headboard, carries a quote, a sentence, a meaningful saying printed on beautiful paper…and like a murmur from the wall, it adds a very personal touch to this playful decor. For the headboard, we removed the glass from a frame and replaced it with a wood panel, and covered it in foam and white cotton fabric. Freshness certainly characterizes the theme in this room.
Right-angled classic
This oh-so-imposing headboard affords the elegance called for by the pure and simple decor. To achieve the desired effect, we covered a panel with foam and fabric, and carefully positioned the holes to fix the padding. We then framed the panel with wood, stained a chocolate brown, thereby increasing its stature. A headboard that is easy to construct and that brings added height to this bed decor – very impressive indeed.
A symmetric arrangement
Made of the same wood as the rest of the furniture in this sophisticated room, the headboard takes on new proportions – thanks to a carefully designed ensemble of horizontal and vertical lines, and to a symmetrical approach. A gypsum casing attached to the ceiling and painted in the same bluish shade as the far wall made it possible to integrate subtle lighting using recessed lamps. The effect is deepened by the arch of white curtains hung from the ceiling on either side of the bed. To complete the setting, two wooden frames installed just above the bed accentuate the interplay on symmetry that characterizes this decor.
Rectangular echo
This headboard is the essence of simplicity, and was made to echo the rectangular and square shapes that influence the decor of this room. We used a wood panel to make it, and put very simple moulding on it to provide some texture and echo the pattern of squares on the quilted bedspread. This is certainly one way to add some character to a teenager’s bedroom.
Playing with lines
Decidedly young and modern, this headboard provides a definite answer to the lines painted on the walls. All that was required by way of material was a few MDF boards of various lengths painted in the same colours as those chosen for the room’s decor. We then layered them and attached our structure directly onto the wall: a colourful motif that truly ‘stands out.’ Unique, personalized, and creative: you just need to think about it!
Recycled materials, a few pieces of wood left over from other projects, some soft fabric, and creativity most of all: this is all you’ll need to put together and construct your own unique creations – headboards to give the bedrooms in your house wonderful and original appeal. Just take a look around you, drop by your local dealer, and have confidence in your imagination. You can do wonders!
