Warning

Warning: shut off the main water supply to the house and drain the system by opening all the taps starting at the highest point of the house to the lowest.

Before getting started, it is suggested that you dry fit all the parts before permanently fixing them together. You should also determine the location of your washing machine and laundry tub, and locate the water main (for hot and cold water).

1. Install the water supplies.

Locate the existing water main (hot and cold water) and then pipe for the cold water and another for the hot water into the room where you will be installing your laundry. Ideally the two pipes should be placed mid-way between your washing machine and laundry tub.

2. Extending the piping towards the washing machine and the laundry tub

Once the pipes are placed in the desired site in relation to the water mains, solder a ½ in. Tee joint to the end of each of the pipes (for both the hot and cold water). You can now extend these pipes towards the washing machine and laundry tub.

Using ½ in. piping, cut sections to the required length, then connect them to the Tee joints that you've just assembled. Now connect a ½ in. 90º elbow at the end of each of their extremities in order to direct the piping towards the laundry tub faucets. Use two new sections of piping, also cut to appropriate lengths, to reach the two faucets.

3. Installing the laundry tub faucets

At the appropriate height, solder a ½ in. 90º Tee joint elbow destined for the first faucet and repeat this procedure for the second one. Add a small section of piping to the Teesthen solder on a ½ in. × 3/8 in. shut off valve. Then connect a 3/8 in. × ½ in. FIP speedway/supply tube (we recommend using braided stainless steel speedways/supply tubes) to the bottom of the faucet.

For more detailed instructions on installing faucets, please see our article covering that subject.

4. Adding air columns

Solder a final piece of piping to the faucet Tee joints. This section serves as an air column and prevents your pipes from "banging". Then solder the washing machine shut off valves to the pipes.
