Colours

In the entrance, choose a colour that is refreshing in the summer and warming in the winter. Natural tones like off-white, beige and flax are indicated. As well, they blend nicely with other colours. Thus, if the living or dining room is visible from the entrance, the colours will be in harmony. Other colours will also do and can add a note of cheerfulness to the entrance. Think of yellow, peach, or why not raspberry!

Lighting

In the entrance, the ideal would be to have two lighting sources; a ceiling unit and a lamp. The ceiling unit for practical purposes, although it projects a raw, cold light and, if space permits, include a table lamp. This will give atmosphere to your entrance.

Furniture and accessories

The confined space of an entrance often limits decoration to the essentials. Apart from lighting, five elements must be taken into account; storage space, a table, a chair, a mirror and a shelf.

In the entrance, furnishing possibilities are tied to the available space. If there's a closet, there's no need for storage units. A rectangular or half-moon table and a chair will complete the furnishing. Otherwise, you'll need a wardrobe or a standing or wall-mounted coatrack. Exchange the table for a bureau or a chair with drawers. They'll serve as storage for mittens, toques, scarves, etc.
Finish the decor with a mirror and a shelf. Mirrors are very appreciated. They allow one to straighten up before going out. A shelf stores keys, change, etc., and can take the form of a wooden shelf or a reed basket.
If your entrance has no vestibule, you can create one with the help of a divider. Always furnish it with a table and chair. The chair provides seating to pull on boots. The table holds purses, keys, etc. Don't forget! The entrance is one of the most frequented parts of your home.
